We still have some of these old bridges scattered throughout our White Mountains of New Hampshire, usually referred to as “irons” as in 1st Iron, 2nd Iron, 3rd Iron, etcetera. In this nostalgic winter scene by artist Terrence Fogarty, a young boy restrains his pooch from chasing the oncoming locomotive train. Below the rumbling bridge, his friends wait for him to join the hockey game being played on the frozen river.
