Shelburne Farms Barn Fire Maple Wood Earrings

These amazing Handcrafted earrings are created using Wood harvested from a barn fire at the Shelburne Farms in Shelburne Vermont. On Sunday morning September 11, 2016 a thunderstorm rolled through Shelburne. At 5:30am, lighting from the storm struck the Old Dairy Barn on the Southern Acres portion of th property. by 9:30am a National Historic Landmark had been lost.  Each pair is crafted based on the unique style and grain of each piece of wood, so no two pair of earrings will ever be the same.  The wood used to create each pair cam from wood either harvested in good stewardship from the acres of Shelburne Farms or repurposed from Building restoration on the farms.

About the Farms:

From 1886 to 1902, William Seward and Lila Vanderbilt Webb consolidated 32 of these farms into a 3,800-acre agricultural estate. Its landscape design was inspired by Central Park landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted. The Webbs’ grand model horse farm began a tradition of agricultural innovation. With increasing financial pressures by the 1950s, the family shifted away from maintaining the main house and barns to focus on raising dairy and beef animals.

In 1972, Webb descendants decided to open and share Shelburne Farms with the world and give it a new purpose. In 1984 the family contributed the property to the nonprofit educational organization that owns it today.
